Botox

What is Botox?

Have you been bothered by the appearance of wrinkles on your face? Botox can smooth these fine lines and wrinkles to “reverse” the effects of aging. Botox is an injectable made from the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A, a neuromodulator that temporarily blocks nerve signals and stops facial muscles from contracting. Stopping these muscle contractions smooths wrinkles that are unable to form on the skin without the movement of underlying muscles.

What Areas Can Botox Treat?

The most popular use for Botox is to smooth frown lines on the forehead, smile lines, crow’s feet at the corners of the eye, and bunny lines on the nose. It can also be used to fix the appearance of a gummy smile, prevent teeth grinding, smooth neck bands, and more! Botox is even used on the hands and armpits to treat excessive sweating.

Candidates

Almost anyone is a candidate for Botox injections as long as you are not currently pregnant or nursing and are in good health. Check to make sure you are not allergic to the ingredients in Botox before receiving your injectable treatment.

Botox Treatment

During your treatment, a tiny needle will be used to inject the Botox into specific areas of the face. This is a quick treatment that will only take about 15 minutes and is minimally painful. If you are concerned about the use of a needle, a topical anesthetic or ice can be applied before treatment to make you as comfortable as possible.

Results

Immediately after your injections, you may see some mild bruising and swelling around the injection sites. This will resolve within a few days and in about 10-14 days, you will start to see the results. Botox usually lasts about 3-4 months and after that time, you can schedule another appointment to touch up your results.
