What Is Lip Augmentation?

What Is Non-Surgical Lip Augmentation?

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic procedure contributing to an improved appearance of the lips and surrounding facial areas. Injectable fillers provide a minimally invasive, non-surgical option for lip enhancement and increased self-confidence.

Olga uses injectable dermal fillers to smooth away fine lines around the lips (perioral lip lines or smoker’s lines), add volume to thinning lips, or reshape the lips to achieve a certain look.

Am I a Good Candidate for Lip Augmentation?

If you want plumper lips and a reduction in the appearance of perioral lip lines, you are an ideal candidate for lip fillers. Many patients who seek out lip fillers have naturally thin lips, lip asymmetry, or uneven upper and lower lips. For any of these concerns, lip fillers and lip enhancement procedures like the lip lift are effective options.

Before undergoing any lip augmentation treatment, it is critical to have a positive attitude and realistic expectations. You must be in good general health and not suffer from any bleeding disorders. It is also critical that you do not have an active infection, such as oral herpes.

Your Consultation

Your consultation with Glamour Medical will involve a physical examination of your lips and the region around your mouth. It is absolutely essential to communicate with your aesthetician your medical history as well as any current medications and supplements you may be taking. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to lidocaine or have any past occurrences of cold sores (oral herpes), inform our team at your earliest opportunity.

Your aesthetician will learn more about your cosmetic goals and create a customized treatment plan. We will also determine the appropriate lip filler from our selection of dermal fillers. Some lip fillers are better for producing noticeable lip volume and fuller lips while others are better for a natural approach and adding lip definition. Your lip filler procedure will be personalized to your ideal look.

The Procedure

Your lip augmentation treatment starts with determining where the injection site(s) will be. These will be marked so that Olga can administer the lip filler injections to the target areas with precision. Because lidocaine is included in the filler mixture, topical anesthetic is no longer required and you can enjoy a painless procedure. Ice packs can help numb the area before injections if you are sensitive to pain.

The markings will be erased once all of the lip injections have been completed. To alleviate pain, apply ice packs to the affected areas. The treatment is relatively quick – the entire lip augmentation procedure should take between 10 and 30 minutes, and you will instantly notice the results.

The Lip Flip

Another way to augment your lips is with a Botox lip flip. Botox contains botulinum toxin A, a safe ingredient that temporarily paralyzes and relaxes the muscles. When Botox is injected just above the upper lip and around the corners of the mouth, the botulinum toxin will cause the muscles around the lip to relax. This creates a slight “flip” that helps your lips look larger and plumper since the upper lip now turns up. This reveals more of the pink area of the lip, giving a more natural shape to thin lips.

Aftercare Following Lip Augmentation

You may be able to resume your normal routine immediately following your lip treatment, with little to no downtime or recovery time needed. You may have minor bruising and swelling but it subsides very quickly. Though it may take a couple of hours for the lip filler to settle, your lips should feel normal once settled. It is best not to use lipstick or other lip products following your injections.

Most lip fillers last for around 12 months but this can vary based on the specific lip fillers you select. Our team will tell you the best time to return for touch ups based on your exact cosmetic lip injections.
