Radiesse

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is the first FDA-approved calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) dermal filler. The gel microspheres of CaHA stimulate your body’s natural collagen production to plump the skin and fill in facial wrinkles and creases. Collagen is one of two proteins in your skin that gives it structure, elasticity, and a smooth texture.

What Areas Can Radiesse Treat?

Radiesse fills laugh lines around the nose and mouth, as well as nasolabial folds that extend from the corners of the mouth to the bottom of the nose. Radiesse can even fill deep scars and restore volume on the back of the hands to reduce the appearance of prominent veins.

Candidates

Most people are candidates for Radiesse, but you should not receive treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection or have a bleeding disorder. You should also make sure you are not allergic to lidocaine if it is added to your injection.

Radiesse Treatment

To ease your discomfort, lidocaine is sometimes incorporated with the Radiesse formula, or a topical anesthetic can be applied. The procedure will only take 15 minutes or less, depending on how many injections were needed to obtain the best results. After your injections, no downtime is required, and you can return home or to your work since some patients choose to receive this quick treatment during their lunch hour.

Minor swelling and bruising can occur around the treatment sites, but this will reduce within a couple of days. Your skin may be sensitive, so you should also avoid direct sun until this swelling goes down.

Results

You will see immediate improvements after your Radiesse injection that will improve over the week following treatment. Once your results develop, they can last for up to 2 years, but this depends on how large the treatment area was and the severity of the treated condition.
